Flawed But Chosen | Week 3
Day 1: Embracing God's Favour Amidst Opposition
Reading: 1 Samuel 18:1-16
Devotional: As we read about David's rise to fame and Saul's growing jealousy, we're reminded that God's favor in our lives may not always be met with universal approval. Just as David faced opposition from Saul despite his faithfulness, we too may encounter resistance when walking in God's calling. Today, reflect on areas in your life where you've experienced God's favor. Have you ever felt opposition or jealousy from others as a result? Remember that God's approval matters more than human acclaim. Pray for the strength to remain faithful to your calling, even when faced with challenges or misunderstanding from others.
Day 2: Staying Faithful in Difficult Seasons
Reading: Psalm 27
Devotional: David's ability to "keep playing his harp" in the face of adversity speaks to a deep trust in God's faithfulness. Psalm 27, likely written during a time of trouble, echoes this trust. As you read, notice David's confidence in God's protection and presence. In what areas of your life do you need to "keep playing your harp" - staying faithful even when circumstances are difficult? Ask God to strengthen your faith and help you maintain a posture of worship and service, even in challenging seasons.
Day 3: Finding Security in God's Calling
Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10
Devotional: The sermon emphasized that our calling comes from God, not human approval. Paul's words to the Ephesians remind us that our salvation and purpose are gifts from God, not earned by our own efforts or others' opinions. Reflect on your own sense of calling or purpose. Are you seeking validation from others or resting in God's approval? Take time to thank God for His grace in your life and ask for confidence in the unique way He's created and called you to serve Him.
Day 4: Responding to Jealousy with Grace
Reading: James 3:13-18
Devotional: Saul's jealousy of David led to destructive behavior, but David responded with continued faithfulness. James contrasts earthly wisdom, which breeds jealousy and selfish ambition, with heavenly wisdom characterized by peace and mercy. Consider your own responses when faced with others' jealousy or when you feel envious. How can you cultivate the "wisdom from above" in your relationships? Pray for God to fill you with His love and peace, enabling you to respond with grace even when others may not celebrate your success.
Day 5: Trusting God's Timing and Sovereignty
Reading: Romans 8:28-39
Devotional: Despite being anointed as future king, David had to wait and serve faithfully for years before taking the throne. Paul's powerful words in Romans remind us that God is working all things for good for those who love Him. When have you had to wait on God's timing in your life? How did it test or strengthen your faith? Meditate on the promise that nothing can separate us from God's love. Ask God for patience and trust in His perfect timing and sovereign plan for your life, even when the path forward isn't clear.
